According to the San Antonio Express-News, the Battle of Flowers parade tradition dates back to April 1891, the 55th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. It was started to honor the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. Now, millions of people watch the parade on television each year and the citizen's of Bexar County all celebrate.
