Census 2020

Beginning in March the US Census Bureau will invite households across the country to participate in the 2020 census. But what is the census? Simply put, the census is a headcount of every person living in the United States. To be sure the government represents the people, the US Constitution requires a population count every ten years. This information determines how the government divides up billions of dollars over the next ten years, so it is very important that these numbers are accurate.

First of all, to see the census, or start filling it out, head to my2020census.gov. This is the only website where you will be able to fill out the actual census!

Here is a preview of all the questions the census asks.

Please note, the census is safe and secure and very important! Click here for information about the Census and Confidentiality, but know that the information you provide cannot, in any way, be used against you.

Do you have specialized questions or are you part of a special population? Check for answers below.

Lastly, please know that there are many untrue rumors about the census. Many of them are addressed here, and one of the most persistent is that the census will ask about your citizenship status. This is not true. The census is created to count every person living in the United States of America, and it does not matter (nor does it ask) if you are a citizen or not. You can report census rumors at [email protected].
