September is Library Card Sign-Up Month and we're highlighting different resources to entice even more Bexar County residents to complete the quick and easy online registration process and get a BiblioTech Public Library card.
Today, we're talking about our amazing active learning resources. What are active learning resources, you ask? This is our collection of resources that can help you learn new skills or build on skills you already have. Would you like weekly tips to brush up your Excel skills? Or did you want to start learning Japanese? Maybe you're looking for a new career path and want to see if learning to code is of interest to you. We have resources to help with all of that!
Lynda
First up is Lynda.com. This resource, which will soon go by LinkedIn Learning, is a huge database of amazing video courses in business, technology and creative skills, all taught by experts. Some of the most popular include:
- Time Management Tips
- HTML Essential Training
- Photoshop Essential Training
- Microsoft Teams Essential Training
- Online Marketing Foundations
To take these courses, and thousands of others on everything from Becoming and 3D Character Animator to How to Teach Using Blackboard, you'll simply need your BiblioTech Public Library card number and password/PIN. If you don't have a card yet, you can register online in minutes. We can also reset your password/PIN.
Mango Languages
If you would like to learn a new language, brush up on your language skills, or even watch a foreign language movie, you can use our Mango Languages resource. While you can log in with just your BiblioTech Public Library card number, we highly recommend signing up for a Mango account. This allows you to track your progress as you learn. You can see all the languages Mango offers here, but the most popular courses with BiblioTech users are consistently Spanish, Japanese, English as a Second Language (Mango offers ESL courses for more than 20 native languages) and French.
Treehouse
Treehouse is another amazing active learning resource you have access to, for free, with your BiblioTech Public Library card. This award-winning platform features more than 1,000 videos created by expert teachers on web design, coding, business and more. After watching a video, practice what you've learned through quizzes and interactive challenges. This is the only resource BiblioTech offers that has a limited number of seats, so you do have to request a seat, after you register for your BiblioTech Public Library card. Then, we will send you an email invite. Don't worry, it's a quick process! Curious about the most popular learning tracks on Treehouse? They include:
- Front End Web Development, where participants learn to code websites using HTML, CSS and JavaScript during a 57 hour set of courses.
- Full Stack JavaScript, where participants learn JavaScript, jQuery, Node.js and Gulp to become a professional JavaScript developer during a 45 hour set of courses.
