Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act

An image of the beginning of the CARES Act
Article Date
March 30, 2020

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, was signed into law on Friday, March 27. You can read the full text of the bill here. It is also available to download as a PDF below.

This stimulus bill contains a lot of different information and does many things, but the most talked about is the fact that it will allow most taxpaying Americans to get a check directly from the government to help support people during the coronavirus. It also makes loans available to different businesses and revamps some unemployement benefits, among other things.

There is a very good summary of what is in the bill in this NPR article. There is also a helpful Q&A at USA Today.
