Watch Language Healers on Kanopy
Article Date
November 9, 2020

November is Native American Heritage Month, a time when we "pay tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans." The month was designated by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 and organizations from the National Parks Service, to the National Archives and the San Antonio Public Library celebrate each year.

Here at BiblioTech Public Library, we have several different resources and collections to highlight Native American history and culture. On cloudLibrary, check out our collection of ebooks and audiobooks for all ages on our Native American Heritage Month shelf. On Hoopla, you'll find a downloadable Native American music collection, as well as some amazing books, including Native American Myths by Rosalind Kerven.

On Kanopy, you can find several Great Courses classes on Native American heritage, including The Unknown Story of Ancient North America, and North American People's and Tribes. On Kanopy, you can also watch the award-winning documentary, Language Healers: Native Americans Reviving Native Languages.

Want to do something more active? Learn an indigenous language (such as Potawatomi, Cherokee or Hawaiian) using Mango Languages. Or, read A Kid's Guide to Native American History on BiblioBoard, which includes 50 different hands-on activities.

Let us know which resources you use this month on FacebookTwitter or Instagram.
