New resource alert! BiblioTech Public Library is proud to now offer access to Prenda Code Club. This exciting new way to learn how to code is a self-guided online software program that teaches you how to code through hundreds of coding tutorials and dozens of real-world projects. Prenda offers a gamified learning experience ― as you progress through the activities, you’ll earn clothes and accessories for your personal avatar.
This learn-to-code software program is aimed at ages 8-18, but can be used by anyone interested in coding. You can log into Prenda to gain the skills necessary to make websites, apps, programs, animations and video games.
In addition to all these features, the folks behind Prenda run amazing competitions throughout the year, where kids who compete win real-world prizes! Until January 31, you can take part in the Holiday Code Challenge. A mission where coders create a Holiday Robot Helper to share your favorite parts of your favorite Holiday with the world. The lucky winner of this challenge will win their very own drone. This spring, there will be another challenge running from March 3 to April 14. We'll be sure to let you know all the details as they are released!
Prenda compliments another coding resource we have, Treehouse. While Prenda is focused on making gaming fun for kids of all ages, Treehouse is focused on helping you get the skills you need to get a job or a promotion. The expert-led courses can help beginners get an entry-level job in the tech field, while the more advanced courses help those already in the field stay up-to-date or learn new languages and skills.
We're so glad to offer Active Learning Resources, and happy we've been able to roll out Prenda this week! Looking for a hands-on way to see if coding is for your kids? Check out the No-Tech Coding worksheet attached to this article. It provides three great articles that can all be done at home.
