Voucher Program Open Enrollment

Changes are coming to the SAHA Section 8 waitlist! Below you can find a list of changes, and then a Frequently Asked Questions section that includes contact information.

  • The window to apply for the Section 8 waitlist Sept. 1 to Sept. 17 
  • After the waitlist closes, our system will assign a lottery number to 15,000 applicants
  • Anyone who applies to the waitlist will need to have an email address in order to progress through the application -- we can help you get an email address at any BiblioTech Branch location.
  • Applicants who did apply for Section 8 housing will be sent an email letting them know whether they were selected

WHEN CAN I SUBMIT AN APPLICATION?

SAHA will accept preliminary applications beginning Wednesday, Sept. 1, through Friday, Sept. 17, at saha.org/enrollment.

WHERE CAN I APPLY?

All applications must be completed online at saha.org/enrollment.

IF I’M ON THE VOUCHER PROGRAM WAITLIST, DO I HAVE TO APPLY AGAIN?

No, you do not. If you are already on the waitlist, we will call you off the waitlist before we begin helping families who are applying during this open enrollment period.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M ON THE CURRENT WAITLIST?

You can check your status by logging into the applicant portal on saha.myhousing.com. If you do not remember your login information, send an email to [email protected] to speak with staff who can help.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT BEFORE I KNOW IF I RECEIVED A VOUCHER?

Once the open enrollment period ends, you will receive an email and mailed letter within 30 days stating whether you were added to the waitlist or not. If you are selected by the lottery, it can take up to 2 ½ years before you will move to the eligibility process.

HOW WILL I FIND OUT IF I HAVE BEEN SELECTED BY THE LOTTERY?

You will receive an email and mailed letter with your next steps and helpful information.

IF I DON’T RECEIVE A VOUCHER NOW, WHEN WILL I HAVE A CHANCE TO APPLY AGAIN?

We will use email and social media when we announce the next open enrollment.

IF I APPLY EARLY, DO I HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO GET A VOUCHER?

Your chances to be selected by the lottery system will be the same regardless of when you apply within the 17 days. By using the lottery system, we are ensuring you can apply for assistance at your own convenience.

WHY WAS THE LIST CLOSED FOR SO LONG LAST TIME?

SAHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program waitlist was closed in 2017 so the agency could conduct maintenance and find methods to better serve our future residents.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS IF I DON’T RECEIVE A VOUCHER THIS TIME?

You have the option to apply for our Public Housing Program by visiting saha.org/housing. We also have affordable housing options at our Beacon Communities and Partnership properties where you can check if you are eligible for housing assistance through these avenues.
