Whether your sense of humor makes you appreciate Dave Chappelle or "Weird Al" Yankovic (or both!), we all need a good laugh sometimes. Our favorite TV stars know this, as evidenced by At Home episodes of Saturday Night Live and several late night shows as well as the Parks and Rec reunion special, which will feature most of the original cast and will benefit Feeding America.
The pandemic we are currently experiencing can make us feel isolated and alone, but laughing together can help. Our Pub Hub collection this week will feature some of the funniest content you have access to with your BiblioTech Public Library card, as well as some hilarious links. Check it out, and then come hang out with us on our Pub Hub Facebook group, where we'll talk about the real life experiences helping us laugh, as well as what we're reading and watching.
If you enjoy stand up comedians, be sure to check out Hoopla (there is also an app). With audio features like Comedy Is Not Pretty by Steve Martin, movies like Comedy Warriors featuring Zach Galifianakis and others, as well as comics like Margaret Cho, Jim Gaffigan and John Mulaney, this collection is not to be missed.
Hoopla also has a Comics section, so if your comic tastes run to superheroes, for instance, borrow away! You can also find some great comics on our BiblioBoard platform (there's an app for that too!). Check out the Children's Comics collection, which is really for all ages, as it features Nancy Drew, Garfield, the Smurfs and more timeless classics. For those looking for more highbrow humor, check out this collection of Shakespeare's Comedies.
In our cloudLibrary collection, the Humor section, which has ebook and audiobook titles, is not to be missed. You can check out Tiffany Haddish's The Last Black Unicorn, read by the author, or the classic, dark humor novel Catch-22.
On RBdigital, you can download some great, humorous NPR shows, such as Car Talk and Fresh Air: Laughs. We also have some very funny audiobooks, including popular reads for kids, like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
For some local hilarity, check out the HORSE challenge issued by one San Antonio brewery to others. Inspired by the NBA, this challenge features shots from forklifts, minivans and more.
We all need to remember to laugh, along and together, while we work through these unprecidented times. Join us over on Facebook to talk about what makes you laugh.
